Consistent Performance in All Positions

Leone led after the kneeling position and held third place after the prone position. In the final and most challenging standing position, Chiara Leone surged ahead to claim the top spot.

Intense Final Rounds

The final shooting rounds at the Châteauroux shooting range, about 250 km south of Paris, were filled with tension. Leone led by 7/10 points over her only remaining competitor, American shooter Sagen Maddalena, before the last shot. Maintaining her composure, Leone scored an impressive 10.8 points, just 1/10 shy of the maximum. Chiara Leone becomes the second Swiss female shooter to win an Olympic gold medal, following her teammate Nina Christen, who was the first Swiss shooter to win gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Leone’s total score of 464.4 points surpassed the previous Olympic record of 463.9 points held by Nina Christen.

Historic Victory for Switzerland

Chiara Leone’s victory marks Switzerland’s eighth gold medal in shooting at the Olympics. The Swiss team celebrated their historic win in Paris, with Audrey Gogniat having previously won a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event.

Continued Success for Swiss Athletes

On August 2nd, the Swiss team had more to celebrate as rowers Andrin Gulich and Roman Röösli won bronze in the men’s double sculls. Despite a rocky start that prevented direct qualification to the semifinals, their victory in the repechage allowed them to secure second place in the semifinals and third place in the final.
