Ohtani, who was expected to play a key role in helping the Dodgers secure the championship, experienced shoulder pain throughout the decisive series. Initially, the team’s medical staff believed the injury could be managed with rest and conservative treatment. However, further evaluation showed the injury was more severe, necessitating surgery to ensure a full recovery.

Details about Ohtani recovery timeline remain unclear, but he could miss the early part of the next season. This comes as a significant blow to the Dodgers, who heavily rely on Ohtani unique dual-threat ability as both a dominant pitcher and an elite hitter.

Dodgers Support and Optimism

The Dodgers have expressed their full support for Ohtani, wishing him a speedy recovery and affirming that they’ll stand by him throughout the rehabilitation process. The team looks forward to his eventual return to the field.

Although Ohtani didn’t pitch this year, he continued to contribute significantly, helping the Dodgers clinch their second championship since 2020.

The recent procedure, performed on his non-throwing shoulder by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, is not expected to affect his ability to return to the mound next season. Ohtani had been participating in regular pitching workouts at the time of his injury.

Despite the severity of the injury, Ohtani remained in high spirits within the Dodgers clubhouse after their Game 5 victory over the Yankees.

“I’m incredibly honored to have been part of a season where we played as long as we could and to have truly understood this team,” Ohtani said after the clinching win. “My first year and experiencing a World Series win is a tremendous honor.”
