Jon Jones Claps Back at ‘Ducking’ Accusations, Dismisses Aspinall Fight Talk: ‘Oh No, My World Is Over’

Jon Jones Dismisses “Ducking” Accusations Ahead of UFC 309 Title Defense

Jon Jones isn’t letting the “ducking” accusations get to him. The UFC heavyweight champion has no time for claims that he’s avoiding a fight with Tom Aspinall. As Jones gears up to defend his title against Stipe Miocic in the much-anticipated main event of UFC 309 on Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden, he’s making it clear where he stands.

In a recent chat with MMA journalist Kevin Iole, Jones shot down suggestions that he’s ducking the interim champion. While Aspinall has been vocal about wanting a title unification bout, Jones argued the British fighter hasn’t proven he’s earned that shot yet. Instead, “Bones” hinted at his true target post-UFC 309: a legacy-defining showdown with light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira.

Despite the backlash, Jones remains unfazed. Fans and critics alike have been quick to label him a “duck,” but Jones isn’t backing down. He took to social media to poke fun at the accusations: “I’m going to hide in my mansion and not come outside, people are calling me a duck, come on, oh no, my world is over,” he tweeted, before deleting the post.

Later, he offered a more measured response, reaffirming his focus on his career and legacy. “Every decision is rooted in purpose,” Jones said. “My journey isn’t dictated by hype or outside opinions. It’s about crafting a legacy that speaks for itself. Focused, driven, and in complete control of myself.

UFC 309 will mark Jones’ return to action after a year-long hiatus following his dominant victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023. He was originally scheduled to face Miocic at UFC 295, but Miocic had to withdraw due to a torn pectoral muscle. With his eyes set on the future, Jones is ready to take the next step toward solidifying his place in MMA history.
