Recently, Kardashian became the center of attention at the LACMA Art+Film Gala in Los Angeles, wearing a plunging white Gucci dress with a neckline that extended down to her waist, paired with a cream-coloured cape. The standout element of her outfit was a large diamond necklace featuring Princess Diana famous amethyst cross pendant. Reportedly, Kardashian acquired this necklace at an auction for around $212,000.
The necklace, which includes diamonds weighing approximately 5.25 carats, features a cross pendant measuring 5.4 inches by 3.7 inches. It was crafted in the early 20th century by Garrard, the British royal family’s jeweler. Traditionally, amethyst represents British royalty, and Diana’s choice to wear the oversized pendant with an unusually long chain was seen as bold. A spokesperson for the UK-based jewelry brand Steven Stone said, “Very few people could wear such an unusual piece, except Princess Diana.”
Some critics mocked Kardashian choice to wear the pendant, suggesting she might be seeking a connection to royalty. One person commented, “Maybe she wants to be remembered among timeless legends like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Princess Diana, so she bought her way into class.” Kardashian has not responded to the criticism.
Backlash Over Marilyn Monroe’s Dress
This isn’t the first time Kardashian has worn iconic pieces from famous women. At the 2022 Met Gala, she wore Marilyn Monroe famous gown from when she sang “Happy Birthday” to U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1962. After the event, Kardashian was accused of damaging the dress, with reports that several crystals fell off and others were left dangling by thin threads.
Behind-the-scenes footage shows Kardashian struggling to fit into Monroe dress. The gown couldn’t zip past her hips, so her assistants had to stitch it closed with thread. To cover the open section on the red carpet, she wore a fur shawl.
