Towns’ Offensive Versatility

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, who previously coached Towns in Minnesota, praised the All-Star for his well-rounded offensive game.

“He just sees the game,” Thibodeau said. “His experience has taught him a lot, and his skill set—being able to shoot and handle the ball—makes him dangerous. If you cut and get open, he’ll find you.”

Towns’ passing has added a new dimension to the Knicks’ offense, despite his assists per game (2.7) being at their lowest since the 2017-18 season. However, his career-low 1.8 turnovers per game reflect improved decision-making.

Scoring and Rebounding Leader

The 28-year-old New Jersey native is also leading the Knicks in scoring and rebounding, averaging 24.5 points and 12.4 rebounds per game—both career highs. His shooting efficiency has been remarkable, hitting 51.1% from beyond the arc with 2.4 threes per game.

Thibodeau has emphasized the importance of long-range shooting this season. “It’s about understanding the value of good shots,” Thibodeau explained. “Whether it’s getting to the rim, capitalizing on open 3-pointers, or making the right decision when the defense collapses, these things are crucial.”

Another key contributor, OG Anunoby, has started the season strong, shooting 41.5% from deep in the first 10 games. Thibodeau lauded his development:“From the day he was drafted to now, he’s improved as much as any player I’ve seen. He’s a phenomenal shooter and an exceptional player overall.”
