Mike Tyson Sets New Fight Date with American YouTuber Jake Paul

The highly anticipated bout between boxing legend Mike Tyson, 57, and American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, 27, has been rescheduled for the end of 2024.

“New date, same place, same fate,” both Paul and Tyson announced in an Instagram post, confirming that the match will now take place on November 15. The fight will still be held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, as initially planned.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the company organizing the fight, said all parties involved worked diligently to “reschedule this monumental event.” He emphasized that the chosen date allows both fighters ample preparation time and ensures the fight will take place in the middle of the NFL season at AT&T Stadium.

Texas Approves Professional Status for Tyson vs. Jake Paul Fight

The Texas State Athletic Commission has approved the bout as a professional fight. It will consist of eight two-minute rounds, a shorter format compared to the usual 10 or 12 three-minute rounds seen in high-level boxing. The fighters will also use 14-ounce gloves (heavier than the standard 10-ounce), which could reduce the power behind their punches.

The undercard for the Tyson-Paul fight will include the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, hailed as “the most awaited rematch in women’s boxing history.” Taylor defeated Serrano in April 2022 by decision to retain her WBA, IBF, WBO, and WBC lightweight titles at Madison Square Garden.

The Tyson-Paul match was initially scheduled for July 20 but was postponed due to Tyson’s health issues the week prior. The heavyweight icon experienced nausea and dizziness from a ruptured ulcer while on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

A member of Tyson’s team later confirmed that his health had stabilized, but doctors ruled that he was unfit to fight at that time. As a result, Tyson was advised to rest and recover before resuming his training.

Jake Paul’s Reaction to the Postponement

Paul, visibly disappointed, commented, “This is devastating news. I’m heartbroken and at a loss for words. Tyson just needs a bit more time, and I’m ready whenever he is. This fight is huge, and I believe it will change the world. I’ve been training hard for this, and I feel sorry for everyone involved in this event.”

Tyson, who won the WBC title in 1986 at the age of 20, remains the youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history. However, his reign at the top lasted less than four years, ending with a shocking loss to Buster Douglas in 1990. After the defeat, Tyson’s career suffered as he faced legal troubles, including a prison sentence for rape. Despite his comeback attempts in the late 1990s, his most notable moment was infamously biting Evander Holyfield’s ear.

Tyson retired in 2005 after losing three of his last four fights. He returned to the ring on November 28, 2020, in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw. Both fighters received special “Frontline Battle” belts from the WBC to commemorate the event.

Jake Paul, who transitioned from YouTuber to professional boxer in 2020, has fought 10 times professionally, winning nine bouts and losing only one—against Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in February 2023. According to the UK’s Sunsport, Paul’s net worth is estimated at $35 million, while Tyson’s stands around $10 million.
