New era for Dallas Wings?

A transformative era has arrived for the Dallas Wings as they welcome Curt Miller as their new General Manager and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations. This pivotal appointment follows Miller’s celebrated tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks, and his seven-season leadership with the Connecticut Sun as both coach and general manager. His impact on the WNBA has been profound, setting high expectations for his future with the Wings.

“Curt Miller’s arrival signifies a pivotal moment for the Wings,” remarked Greg Bibb, President and CEO of the Dallas Wings. “His proven ability to construct winning teams and his success in coaching at the highest level of women’s basketball will be invaluable as we strive for a championship.” Bibb, who previously held the general manager position, stepped down following the departure of former head coach Latricia Trammell. Now, Miller’s first challenge will be to select a new head coach for the franchise—a complex task amidst the WNBA’s current coaching carousel with positions open in Washington, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Connecticut.

Miller’s distinguished career speaks for itself. Twice named WNBA Coach of the Year, Miller led the Connecticut Sun to six straight playoff appearances and two Finals appearances in 2019 and 2022. Reflecting on his new role, Miller stated, “The potential of the Dallas Wings is immense. With a new arena and practice facility on the horizon, a talented roster, a promising draft position, and a dedicated fanbase, the future is bright.” New era for Dallas Wings?

Miller’s coaching journey began at the college level, where he achieved significant success at Indiana and Bowling Green. This experience places him among an elite group of coaches, joining Van Chancellor and Lin Dunn as one of the few to reach over 250 college wins and 150 WNBA wins.

In addition to Miller’s appointment, the Wings are also looking ahead to the WNBA draft lottery, where they’re guaranteed a top-three draft pick thanks to a swap with the Chicago Sky. The franchise’s dedication to building a winning team continues with front-office promotions. Travis Charles, previously Vice President of Basketball Operations and Assistant General Manager, has advanced to Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations and Assistant General Manager. Charles, with over eleven years of service, has expertly managed logistics, video, scouting, and team travel, making him a critical figure within the Wings organization.

Adding to the strength of the front office, Jasmine Thomas, a former player under Miller with the Connecticut Sun, joins as Vice President of Basketball Operations and Assistant General Manager. Thomas brings experience and firsthand knowledge of Miller’s coaching philosophy, further bolstering the Wings’ commitment to a successful future.

With Miller’s leadership, strategic draft opportunities, and a strengthened front office, the Dallas Wings are positioned to take their game to the next level, aiming to bring home a WNBA championship and establish themselves as a powerhouse in women’s basketball.
